The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly.

Isabella Nitschke

I am of German-Swedish origin, but have lived and worked most of my life abroad in Europe and overseas. I recently moved to London where, by setting up IN-Tuition Ltd., I realised my ambition of working with what I truly enjoy in life: helping people get to know their inner self and fulfil their true potential.

I started my professional life working with international relations in the Swedish Foreign Service. Soon my experience of the European Union and my knowledge of China gave me the opportunity to work for the European Commission Delegation in Beijing, where I was responsible for dealing with human rights issues. Following the end of my contract, I returned to Europe where I opened a satellite office in Brussels for a Chinese–American human rights NGO, lobbying the EU institutions. These were interesting but demanding years of my life. Stress took its toll, as did the devastating stories and encounters with mistreated Chinese human rights defenders. My work totally consumed me; I neglected my health to a point where my body and mind both abruptly said stop.

The road to recovery was long and difficult, but along the way I discovered the importance of listening to and being aware of the body´s signals, to keep an inner balance through yoga and meditation and to live in the present, not to dwell on the past or worry about the future. I was already practicing yoga during the time that I was leading my stressful lifestyle, in the hope of restoring some balance to my system. But yoga causes energetic amplification. This means that it tends to enhance whatever state you bring to your mat. That is why it was not until I was forced to slow down and return to the beginning that I started to feel the benefits of yoga. Before that my ambitious and stubborn approach was preventing me from enjoying the full benefits of the practice. Once I entered yoga with an open mind my entire organism started relaxing and I embarked on a journey to get to know my inner self and discover my true potential – an exciting yet challenging journey that is still ongoing.

In parallel with my regular job, I had always been interested in health and wellbeing. I worked as a fitness instructor in my spare time and enjoyed helping people feel better about themselves and to reach their physical goals. The instant feedback of satisfied people after a class, and conversations with clients who wished to further improve, motivated me and gave me the energy to carry out my regular job. However, as time went by I realised that I could no longer be happy in my regular job. The change came naturally when my system broke down and I had to change my priorities and become more responsive. The transition to working with people´s wellbeing on a full–time basis came naturally. My journey into yoga and discovery of its benefits made me want to share this with others; teaching yoga was just another natural step.

Coaching became the next natural step after yoga. Coaching and yoga complement each other very well, just as they share many common features. Both yoga and coaching help to reduce stress in various ways: in yoga through breathing, meditation and posture practice; in coaching through various action–oriented techniques. With my background and experience – how leading a very stressful life can bring you to the very edge – and with lessons learned on the road back to recovery, stress management (physical and mental) has become one of my specialities. Working with yoga and coaching I´ve also encountered mental training, a method developed for Swedish athletes by Professor Lars Erik Uneståhl thirty years ago. The methodology can be applied to all areas of life. Having practiced the method myself, I feel a noticeable change in mood and behaviour, as well as a reduced general stress level in the body.

Coaching, yoga and stress management all complement each other; the awareness acquired in yoga is a useful tool for the coaching process and like yoga, life coaching and mental training also help you get to know yourself better. All three practices enhance creativeness, reveal hidden resources and help change lives for the better. They help practitioners take steps to realise goals and fulfil their ambitions, just as they helped me to take the step to create IN–Tuition and to work with what I really enjoy.

Testimonials

“I am very fortunate to have had Isabella as my stress/life and yoga teacher and I can´t stress highly enough the part that she has played in my ongoing recovery from ME.
Isabella has helped me to work towards creating a life that works in harmony with my mind and body rather than against it and one which is driven by my own goals and desires rather than by reacting to things happening around me. She has worked with me to help me identify my true goals and develop a clear strategy for how to make my dreams a reality. Her help in helping me to structure my weeks and manage my time has also been totally invaluable
My life has transformed since I met Isabella. I´ve experienced the benefits of introducing exercise such as yoga, and a daily deep relaxation into my weeks; I have an increase in energy and approach situations more calmly and positively.
Isabella is warm and supportive and her clear-headed insight has helped me to see ways through some of the challenges I was facing. Her empathy was particularly important as it meant I could talk to someone I felt understood what I was going through and where I want to be.”
Kate, London

“My life coaching sessions with Isabella have made a tangible difference to how I´m living my life. Within the process I´ve worked through some ´day to day´ areas that I wanted to address, making bite sized, realistic objectives that I´m following through. I´ve also worked on longer term areas that are really helping me focus on the bigger questions around what I want from life in a deeper, more long term way. Isabella has been incredibly positive and supportive through the process and has made really helpful suggestions. Overall I feel much more in control of where my life is going and a lot happier too!”
Rachel Turner, London

“It was obvious to me when I attended Isabella´s class that I had stumbled upon a very accomplished teacher of yoga. I have not previously had the pleasure of being taught by such an experienced, well-rounded, and professional teacher. Isabella manages to improve our technique both with constant verbal cues, and by physically correcting our postures, without compromising the flow of the class. My ability and enjoyment of yoga has never been greater; neither have I learnt so much about yoga in such a short period of time.”
Alison Durant, London

“Isabella is an excellent yoga teacher who manages to recognize the particular level of each student and who tailors her classes to suit each individual. Isabella´s instructions and advice allowed me to get full benefit from my practice and she also helped me find realistic ways to fit yoga into a busy lifestyle.”
Nick Sessions, London

“Isabella is clearly one of the best yoga instructors I´ve encountered. She is very serious and committed to her teaching and to giving all students an equal amount of attention. Her precise explanations and corrections are very helpful for understanding the postures and getting deeper into one´s practice.”
Jeanette Hofmann, London

“Before joining Isabella´s classes I had tried yoga once or twice, but without any great interest or motivation. I had found yoga to be quite stilted and boring, a repetitive series of postures lacking the sensitivity of the individual practitioner.
Isabella´s classes progressively made me appreciate the meaning of yoga and discover benefits beyond the physical realm. Isabella´s teaching allowed me to develop my sensitivity and awareness as well as being gentle and respecting towards myself. Each of her classes offered a reconciliation of the body and the mind; discovery of feelings and emotions; of one´s perceived physical or emotional limits and how to challenge them. Isabella taught me to become a more humble person, more in tune with myself. I learnt to listen and respect my body, my feelings and my emotions instead of trying to control them.
Isabella is not only a great teacher; she is also a wonderful person whom I am happy to have met at this point in my life.”
Isabella Grappasonni, Brussels

“I came to see Isabella for Life Coaching as I was fed up with feeling like my life was completely out of control, and not heading in the direction that I wanted. Running a business and looking after 2 small children meant that I was caught up in frantic treadmill with barely a minute for myself, feeling depressed, frustrated and with no time to reflect on where my life was heading. Isabella has really helped me cut through the confusion, identify what my goals are and start taking action towards them. It is quite an amazing process; just by figuring out what I want, I seem to have subconsciously gravitated towards my goals almost without trying! Isabella is a very warm and empathetic person, with an uncanny knack of helping you articulate what you are feeling. I would thoroughly recommend her as a life coach.”
Clarissa, London

“I started seeing Isabella at the start of the year for life coaching. I found the experience to be hugely beneficial. I had been feeling like I was treading water for years. I knew I wasn´t particularly happy in my work and love life, but had been burying my head in the sand and didn´t know where to begin to try and create the life I actually want.
Isabella guided me through the life coaching process in a sensitive thoughtful way. Together we identified what I want out of life, where I fit in – in the grand scheme of things, which areas of my life I want to change, and then we built real tangible short and long term goals to help me get there. I now have a very clear plan on what I want from life and clear steps in place to help me get there. I feel really motivated and have made more progress in the first six months of this year than I have in a long long time. I feel positive about the future, and I will always be so grateful to Isabella for helping me reach this point. I can´t thank her enough and would highly recommend both life coaching, and in particular Isabella.”
